Unhappy Relocating power steering reservoir? Heard of this?

Hi Gang!

I have a 1992 500Sl (129) that has developed a slow power steering leak. I had the dealer check the problem and I was told that the reservoir was leaking. They told me the repair involved relocating the reservoir and adding a new bracket. The estimate totals $850!! Has anyone heard of anything like this?

Thanks in advance my friends!

Haven't heard of relocating the reservoir but power steering fluid leaks are EXTREMELY common in most MB models. It usually turns out to be one of the rubber hoses. They're a bear to get to but even so it's usually a pretty cheap fix. Might want to get a second opinion from a good independent. I believe I had mine replaced and the pump resealed for less than $200.

I think you guys are talking about re-sealing the P/S reservoir. It's been a very common problem since day one. Smalk, find out exactly what the estimate includes. $850 is way too high for a simple reservoir re-seal job. There's probably more to it than that. Keep us posted.
