2000 C280 Sport Spark Plug Replacement
 

I would like to replace the spark plugs on my 2000 c280 sport which has 110K miles.
I do work on my other cars and have never worked on a Benz.
The car is starting to Idle rough and my search through this forum is in line what the dealership is telling me. I just have a hard time spending $300 dollars to replace spark plugs. (dont think ive spent $300 in my life on plugs)
1. Is there any special thing I sould be wary of should I attempt to replace them?
2. Are Platinum Plugs OK in this engine?

Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated

The hardest part will be pulling off the spark plug boots. They will feel as though they are welded on.

Before you begin, unbolt the washer resiviour and move it out of the way and also take out the air box and the intake tubing to the throttle body. Remove each coil, there are 6 total.

I used Champion Plats and was very happy. I also changed my spark plug wires to Magnacor, as my wire had 70,000 miles.

I highly recommend the Magnacor plug wires as they go on and off very nice and are very well constructed.

Use NOTHING but the OEM recommended plugs. MB engines can be picky about their plugs. People often change their plugs with "better" ones, and spend tons of time and energy trying to figure out why their car runs like crap.

The reason the dealer charges so much is that the M112 has 12 plugs and several of them are tough to get at. If that's parts and labour, it's expensive, but not out of line.

Besides, what is $300 per 110,000 miles? $0.0027 per mile.

I owned my 1999, C280 sport for several years and the Champion spark plugs were very good plugs and made the engine run smooth and strong. I also have recently put the Denso Iridium spark plugs in and those plugs are at most slightly to no better than the Champion plugs.

The Champion plug part number is 7071/RC12PYP.

While the OEM stuff is good there are other products as good and in some cases better than OEM and less costly to boot.

i would go for oem plugs-either bosch or champion-available from fastlane on this website-should be a lot cheaper than the dealer.

just an update


the spark plugs you need are bosch F8 DPP332 .-looks like the pp could stand for platinum.

also, you need a total of 12 plugs-there are 2 per cylinder-hence the higher total cost due to the number of plugs and quality.:D

MB offers several different brands of sparkplugs, they all carry different part numbers. Our dealership lately has been using Beru "Platin" plugs. I think MB used to offer many more brands of plugs than they do now, they may have pared down the amount of offerings. Typically they offer Bosch, Beru, and Champion. They are all platinum tipped, as I believe any manufacturer uses if they are advertised as "100,000 mile" sparkplugs.

When you make a mistake in your post, you can simply correct it by clicking the "edit" button and making the change.
You can right now change the error in that post, then the one you *just* posted you can click on the edit button, then there is an option to delete the post, so the second one can be gone entirely.
