Help with Hot M103 please!!!

I am not very knowledgable on the cooling system of my car so here is the problem and hopefully someone can help me...

Driving in downtown/regular traffic my temp guage shows past the half-way line of 80 to 120 (maybe 105-110 degrees) I get a clicking/ticking noise coming from the engine compartment. When I checked under the hood while the sound occured I noticed the driver side (AUX??) fan was not turning....I am not sure what to procede with first...Please help, i have to drive with the heat on and that is not all that comfortable when it is 70 degrees out:confused:

With engine at idle, when it hits normal operating temperature.
Is the main fan turning fast?, if not, the fan clutch may be bad.
Try changing the thermostat, it is cheap (about $20.00). It may be sticking in close position.
If the above doesn't work, your water pump may be going bad.
Those are possibilities, diagnose before purchasing expensive parts.

Hi,

How is the coolant level? Still at the normal level?

Do not rely on the warning lamp since the coolant level sensor may be bad.

What do you know about the cooling system?

MB Coolant?
Last changed?
Flushed?
Citric acid used?

Thermostat is a good idea.

Interesting.
Citric Acid flush?
Is that a good idea?
If so, what is the process?
Thanks.

ps:Sorry to 'hijack' your thread.

Hi csnow,

Do a seach on "coolant flush" and you'll have a complete details, as they say.

It is MB's way to get rid of petroleum deposits and other contaminants within the cooling system.

My head gasket went and a coolant flush is required procedure.

See the search results for more.

Regards,
