Where is the port to vacuum the oil from the 2003 E320 engine? I noticed what looks like a dipstick tube, covered by an unmarked plastic cap, at the rear of the engine on the passenger (right) side. Is this it?

When I took the car in for a headlight adjustment, the service advisor was no help on this.

Enquiring minds want to know...

The Dip stick For The Engine Oil has a Handle (BLUE) With a Hole In it. To Check the Engine Oil Level..It Can Also be Used for the Topsider Oil Change!

The Plug You are looking at (Black) Cap/Plug at the Pass side of the Engine Compartment is for the Auto transmission..it has a Tamper proof seal that must be broken to Inspect The Trans Fluid IF You have the Factory Mercedes Dip Stick!

Yes, the one on the right side of the engine behind the cylinder head is the one. It has a small handle on it for removing it, fairly easy to get to. The transmission one is in the same area, but much lower and harder to get to, and has the familiar "lock" that has to be broken to remove the cap.

What do you mean that the advisor "was no help"?
Did you ask for a headlight alignment, or ask how to do it yourself, or what? There is usually info in the owners manual concerning headlight alignment. Usually you want this done with an optical headlight aligner, but the "old fashioned" methods still will work. Does your E320 have Xenon lights or not?

If you are planning on doing an "extra" oil change (between the Maintenance Commitment "free" oil changes) then be sure to used a MB approved synthetic oil, and I'd recommend the MB oil filter too.

Hi Dan,

I should have been clearer in my initial post. When I went to the dealer for a headlight adjustment, the service advisor didn't know where the oil change port was. He said he would find out for me, but didn't follow through. Thanks for your help on this.

The adjusted the headlights, but I'd like to know how to do them myself. I've always done the adjustment on my previous cars, but on the E320 it is not obvious which screw is for which adjustment. Can you explain this to me?

I can't recall having to do an adjustment on the new E (211 chassis) yet. It really should be described in the manual, be sure to look there. I'm working tomorrow, maybe there will be a 211 there I can glance at, or I can look it up. I assume you are familiar enough with where you want the beam to be, you just need to know where the actual adjsutments are made on the lamps. I think there are sockets on the top of the lamp where either an allen wrench or torx socket is inserted, and I believe they are labelled for vertical and horizontal, but I'll try to take a look.

Thanks again, Gilly. I see what appears to be headlight adjustment screws by looking down onto the top of the headlight area. It looks like a Phillips-head screw inside a larger screw. And yes, I do know how I want them set, I just need to know which screws do each adjustment function.

I didn't find anything in the owner's manual on this.

I believe if you look at the "body" of the headlight near the screws they are labelled (cast into the plastic) what they do.
