Euro Depo Lights
hi folks
i just got my depo euro lights in today for my 88 420sel. i had watched another thread mentioning city lights. well my cheap taiwan copies don't appear to have that 5 watt bulb in the main headlight compartment. i guess these cheapies don't have city lights. the mb service cd mentions something about a control module N35 that gives the on signal whenever the key is turned on and running(for canada). always on is what i want to achieve. can anybody tell me where this module is in the car. so am i just not seeing the city lights, is the compartment next to the main headlight the lite you talk about for city lights???? also there is a diaphram with a hose in the main compartment. what is that for. i've heard something about vaccum adjust. so what is that??? thanks guys for the help craig any advice or help

The city light usually is in the main headlamp area, just below the main bulb (H4), I believe. If it isn't there, you probably dont have it.
The light next to the main light is the fog light (H3). N35 (Daytime running lamp control unit) is suppose to be in the Driver's footwell, behind lower dash panel. The diaphagm is for the light beam level adjuster, which is controled by a rotary switch on the dash (you must install the switch and route vacuum lines to the lights). You can then adjust the lights for different load or road conditions (up or down). Hope this helps.

The city light go in the small socket directly below the main H4 socket. Look closely at the unit with the access panel removed, you'll see the socket under the main. Can't remember right now if you have to twist and pull or pinch to release the city light socket.
The vacuum port is just what you suspect, vacuum adjustment of the beam. To activate you would have to replace the light switch with the Euro version plus route vacuum lines from the engine to the switch and headlight assembly. Nice feature, but one I did not activate since I have the self leveling suspension. My DEPO's were made in Germany.

Cheap Eur0 Lights
thanks Steve and Mike
when i get to work i will look again at the light assy. i may have missed the socket. the depos i have came from taiwan. i would think that i could adapt a bulb mount in the main light chamber without screwing up the chrome coating. thanks again guys for clearing this up craig PS: what do you think of running one of those xeon super white bulbs. do you think this will be too much??

FOLLOW UP
hello again
got to work and looked at the lites and they do have that extra bulb for the city lights i do like that vac adjust on the lights. now that i know i have city lights i can put this vac adjust on my to do list. normally i like to run the 9004 with a 100/80w on my mercury. but .... do you think that 80w for the low beam might be a bit too much for euro's. when you use a 55w on say my 98 marquis you just don't have enough light. but again these euro lights seem to magnify your view thru them. what do you folks think about running 100/80w bulbs thanks much craig

amf,
Just run the stock wattage bulbs, you'll be very surprised at the amount of output they have. Let's just say that with properly adjusted lights, I seldom have to run the highbeams.
