Silverstar bulbs for euro lights
I just ordered the Euro lights for my '91 300E .......... I'm planning on getting these bulbs:
Headlights: H7 - Sylvania 9004ST - High/Low Beam; Silverstar; 2 Headlight System Product--Lumens--Watts--Color Temp 9004 ST--700/1200--Max. 50/70--4000° K $24.99 each on http://www.partsamerica.com Fog lights: H3 - HELLA 88827 Xenon Blue 55 Watt H3 Bulb; Euro. Halogen Bulb 1 Year Limited Warranty $5.99 each on partsamerica --------------------------- * Do I need to change the wiring harness? * Are these bulbs cheaper at any other stores/websites? * Also, I'm looking for amber/orange bulbs w/ silver tips (looks silver when not illuminated) for the side clear markers - where can I find these? Thanks! |

Whoops, you have the wrong bulbs there. The Euro headlights will take H4 bulbs (9003) whereas the US headlights take the 9004's!

Correct. I think the 9003 is more commonly labelled as H4. They are the same thing. And yes, the H3 bulbs are correct for the foglights in the Euro headlights.

The improvement from going to the Euro headlights is dramatic due to the superior reflector shape. Mine, with standard 55/60 H4 bulbs are incredible.
Going to higher wattage bulbs can cause damage to the headlight assemblies and wiring. You will have absolutely fabulous lighting with standard bulbs, save money on their cost and have a long lasting reliable system to boot. I tweaked my adjustments yesterday morning and was AMAZED at how great they were this morning. Its like having a couple of freight trains running along next to you supplying the light. Have a great day, |

Thanks for your reply!
Would you mind sharing the details on the bulbs you are using in your Euro headlights? For H3 and H4: Brand Name / Model # / Wattage |

Below is the comparison of the standard and Sylvania SilverStar(America) H4 bulb. SilverStar consumes more power but does not give more light.
Standard H4, Watts: 55/60, Lumens: 1000/1650 Sylvania SilverStar H4, Watts:60/70, Lumens: 1000/1400 If you like to get more light on the road, try Philips Vision Plus H4 for about $28 includes shipping from: http://www.autolamps-online.com/home.htm You can get a free pair of all season H3 with purchase of a pair of H4 Vision Plus of Osram SilverStar for about the same price from: http://www.powerbulbs.com
