I use SWEPCO 201 80W-90 in our limited-slip diff.
Wears better than Mobil 1. The Porsche Club swears by it, esp. for MB tranny's (928 automatic used a MB tranny). I track both cars, and my mechanic who races Subarus and Pro-Spec 7's has been converted as well. :-) neil 1988 360TE AMG 1993 500E |
differential fluid
Okay, did a search nothing conclusive. Is anyone using mobil 1 gear oil for the limited slip differential. I have only seen people using redline so am curious as I use mobil 1 for the tranny and engine both of which seem very happy with it.

mobil 1 synth
in my experience has saved many land rover transmissions and diffs after knocking holes in them on the trail ..diffs with or without lockers. Some lSD's may specify a specific gear oil for use.. go to www.discoweb.org and do a search on Mobil 1 for an overload of user info. or www.roversnorth.com

When I bought both the 83 & 84 the boots where all cracked up, within a small amount of miles the boots tore and the oil flooded out. So I rebuilt the axles and noting that inside the differential was quite dirty from metal & the fluid was pretty old, possibly original, I searched for a good temporary oil. I found a thread here about how Mobil 1 synthetic cleaned their diff out. So Mobil 1 I bought for both as temporary fluids, figure I'll leave them in for at least a few thosand miles then drain it and put the redline in. Mobil 1 is fine and dandy in my book, but I still like Redline better for differentials.
