Office Chair
Has anyone made an office chair out of a car seat? I have been toying with the idea. I know the simplest way to go would be to get a manually adjustable one, but is there some way to power a power seat ? Some type of converter to plug into the wall and power the motors, how awesome would that be to have a power seat for your office chair Any ideas out there??

Recaro Seats makes a base, or at least used to for the automobile seats.
Recaro is the OEM manufacturer of seats for Mercedes and Porsche, to name a few. I have an aftermarket seat in my office. It isn't powered by it is very comfortable. The base allows for tilt, height adjustment etc. You may want to start here: http://www.recaro-nao.com/ Keep us posted, Haasman

The seats that Recaro offers range quite a bit. The chair I have is not a racing seat. It looks very much like a regular "street" type of seat. I think a leather surface is better than the cloth for an office chair since one would get in and out of it frequently during the day.
I think the question to answer regarding a Mercedes seat is whether it would fit on a Recaro base. Contact them and see. Keeps us posted, Haasman

You would need a fairly large 12 volt DC power supply to run the motors in the seat. I would say at least 20 amps. Look at the fuse rating of the power seat circuit on the car that the seats go to. Your power supply would have to be at least that much amperage to prevent it from overloading.
