Angry HELP ASAP!!! car will NOT start!!!

My car is not starting...the lights on the dash come on when you turn the key...but I do not hear the crank...I attempted to connect the battery in the trunk to another car to jump start it, but same problem...no response...all the electronics in the car, i.e. radio, power seats, etc. all work...what is wrong? The car is right now parked on the side of the road in the rain...I had my car in for a $1400CAD service a month ago...and NOW THIS!?!?

Can you hear the fuel pump(s) activating when you turn the key?

Fuel pump relay? IF... your car has one. Check all the wires, vacuum lines and obviously GAS.

Lock and unlock your car to remove the chance that the alarm system is keeping the K38 (starter lock-out) relay from energizing.

The wiring diagram shows two possible versions: one with K38 (ATA system) and the other marked CDN without the relay. Without the relay and the ATA (alarm system) the possibility looks to the neutral safety switch or battery or starter.

BTW the K38 is right behind the inst cluster and could be jumped to by pass a disfunctional alarm.

Exclamation

I got under the car...did a little investigation with some friends, and found that the problem was with the solenoid in the starter...it is dead...I gave it a quick bang with a hammer while somebody was cranking with the key...and the car sprang to life...enuff steam I am hoping to drive to a shop that was recommended to me to get the thing rebuilt...much cheaper than dealing with the M-B dealership...

However, I bought an Interstate M93 battery by accident thinkin' that my original battery was dead...ugh...and I can't return it...that is like $190CAD down the drain...

Reliable

Work for MB- deal with this sort of thing all day....

Want to hear a funny thing that works all the time?

Using your smart key, lock and unlock the door two times. Try and start it - if not, call 800 FOR MERC if you're in the US

It may not work on all instances, but you just may be surprised

By the way, that 1 800 FOR MERC...in Canada, will ONLY work when the car is under warranty...when the car isn't under warranty...they don't really care if you are stranded in Siberia wearing nothing but boxer shorts...if anybody remember my previous thread regarding my service experience...and the cost...I think you will understand, that I am not very plz'ed with the marque right now...
