2.3-16 Self Leveling System Bleeding
I just replaced a pair of shocks on this car. I toped the resevour with Hydrolic fluid but the car still sagging quite a bit even after I drove it, maybe 1.5" to 2.0" lower than it should has. I think the system need to be bled, but I have never done this before, and I can't find a procedure in my Mercedes shop manual. If some know of a way to bleed this system. I'd be sure appreciate the help. Thanks

It doesn't need bleeding. I have had to prime the pump though.
My guess is that if you had a shock failure it was due to extended running with defective accumulators. This also affects the valve. |
How do you prime the pump?
Thanks for the response there STEVEBFL. But how would you prime the pump?
I thought, I may need the accumulators so I bought two but the weather here in the east is keeping me from working on the car. If you don't mind tell me how to prime the pump, in case I need it, this would be greatly appreciated. Alex |
I was afraid you might ask. Basically you need fluid at the pump intake.
We always run the pump output into our gauge. It will peg a 5000psi gauge in about 3 seconds, thus its a two person job; one to stop/stop the motor and one top verify. If we don't have pressure then we worry about priming. The easiest way is to stick an air blower into the reservoir sealed loosely with a shop rag. Gentle pressure is placed on the fluid to help gravity flow the fluid into the pump. Periodi8cally we crank the motor till we have pushed fluid to the output. This is very seldom necessary. |
