V-Belt Squeal....Only When Slowing Down

I need some help with this before bringing my car in for it's service. When I was out on a drive yesterday I noticed my V-Belt was squealing but here is the weird part.........

1. It doesn't squeal when the car is started

2. It doesn't squeal when the car accelerates (Doesn't matter how hard)

3. It doesn't squeal when I turn the steering wheel (no power steering pump issue)

But it does squeal after I have accelerated very hard and completely let off the gas! What could cause this? Do I need a new V-Belt or are one of the components damages....possibly the tensioner?

I would really appreciate any experience on this. The car is a 92 500E.

Thanks everyone.

Afshin, Inspect the Mono Belt...To See if it has cracked or is Glazed

If the Belt is ok then the tensioner is Going .......

ALSO Inspect The Air Pump Clutch..to See If Its Loose..
It can give the same noise as a Defective Mono belt tensioner

Sounds Like Your car Enjoyed The SUNDAY cruise!:D

Mark,

Thanks for the reply. Here's a couple of things I should have added.

The belt looks find, no glazed areas, no visible cracks and it's completely pliable.

I'm a novice when it comes to some components in the engine bay, do you know where the air pump is located. This might be suspect since a week ago I heard a very slight squeak on startup which dissappeared after warmup.

The Air Pump ...Only makes Noise on Start up since it is used for the Lean cycle...The Pumps do have Problems with Clutches
I Have Seen lots of them go on the V8s Could be somthing to Inspect...If It Looks Good..then I Would Do The BELT and Tensioner together...
Btw how many miles on the 500?

Mark,

Well I decided to check back through the records to see when everything was last serviced. The V-Belt and Tensioner were both replaced at 45K back in 1999. I'm suspicious that the tensioner might be going out again so I will definitely have my mechanic check this and the belt.

She has almost 62K miles on her now and running like a top.
