190e plastic unit under right fender?
 

Hi,

I was looking under my front right fender to try and pull out the dent, and I saw some type of black plastic 'unit'. It is almost like a large black round ball with perhaps a vacuum line coming out of it and going towards the engine compartment, although I can not see the other end of the line in the engine compartment.

Does anyone know what this thing is, and where the vaccum line goes?

Car is 1988 190e 2.3 8v

windshield washer pump?

That doesn't sound good. Do you owe any money to anyone named Vinny, Johnny 9 Fingers or Rollie?

MTI, I dont think it is the washer pump, as I think that is fastened to the front of the washer fluid tank.

tkamiya, i didnt see anything going to the radiator or the expansion tank inside the engine compartment.

I will have to try and get a better look tommorrow if there is not too much snow.:(

The line coming off of this 'unit' feels like a vaccum hose, and it felt like it has the rubber boots that are used at the end of the vaccum lines throughout the rest of the car. I cant see too well at all in there, but maybe I can break some of the plastic wheel well away, to get a better look. The plastic is already cracked up and broken from the accident, with the deer.

ok, from what I can see there is a red vaccum hose going into the engine compartment , but it is coming in next to the battery, then snaking behind the battery into a sea of wires that go to somewhere. I also noticed today when I hit the brakes hard I hear what sounds like a "zipping" noise coming from the right front, but it doesnt sound like its coming from the wheel, I thought maybe this "unit" and the noise could be related? Hope this helps someone to help me identify this thing!

I'm fairly sure it is some kind of vacuum reservoir. Lots of cars have them.
Not too sure if it is for the cruise control, or something of that nature.
