190E Blower Motor
O.K... No replies to original post, but I see under motor replacement (W. Thomas) that according to DaveCt it's "about a 30 minute job"
I'm getting ripped off then! I was quoted 4-6 Hrs.!!! Thank you Walter for your post, Dave for your reply, the rest of you... -Mel |

Replacing the blower motor in a w201 chassis is indeed a much easier task than it used to be. The motor is accessed from the outside, under the center wiper assembly. Remove the leaf screen, remove the wiper motor and assembly. Unclip and remove the black plastic airbox cover and the motor is exposed. There are posts here that give pictures and more detailed instructions.

I'm wondering if because it's a late '84 (according to badge on door) "early" '85- if procedure is different-I saw my mechanic flip to page in book, guessed 2 Hr. job minimum. ?
Just wondering about diff. yrs.-diff. procedures. -Mel |

That's still a w201 chassis and not more than an hour, taking time for a couple of beers.

Well, the secret is that I am not a mechanic, but I have worked on so many cars, that as long as you give me a manual, or step by step instructions, I can disassemble and repair almost anything. Be it computers, houses, or cars. I just lucked out and got the jack of all trades genes I guess. Before you start thinking too highly of my skill though...I still can't get the bloody face of the air control system off to replace the fan speed switch though.

That was a tougher one. That facia seems to be wedged right in the panel. It can can be pried out, but be careful not to chip it. Then I think it is two phillips screws holding the fan switch in.

Bringing Her in Mon. $300.00-includes motor ($209.00) and labor. I could've used a blower today! Low 40's, very rainy here in S.E. Ct.!!!!! YUCK !
My only issue (and I hate that word) will be my "clicking" on pass. side which someone on a previous post wrote was my ACC-I'll live w/ that for awhile . Thanks for the support-you guys are great. -M |

My motor now works fabulously, except that it stops intermittently. Jiggle the key, and voila, working again! Anybody know the repair for the ignition assembly? I assume maybe a dirty contact, but I've never really disassembled one before(except to yank one out of a ford one time with a screwdriver, a pair of visegrips and a hammer--definately the unapproved way) How do you remove the thing? I did a quick search here and couldn't find much of anything other than "going to the shop". Not that I don't believe in going to the shop, but I really like working on things myself, especially when I fix it. Feels good.
