to have the same steering wheel as the one pictured? Is this a steering wheel of a new E-class? Also, is this an easy switch or what? I am curious as to what is needed for something like this to fit in my car.

I have installed it in my W124, but in Zebrano.

If you click on Mercedes, then W126, then steering wheels, you will see they have several steering wheels made in leather and wood that fit your chassis. Unfortunately, that style steering wheel that you see in the picture is not available for your chassis.

The reason is because they take a genuine OEM steering wheel, cut out the top and bottom portions, insert the zebrano or Burl wood in its place, and then re-wrap the side portions of the wheel in leather.

Many of us on the mercedesshop forum have ordered from that company, so they appear to be safe.

It will probably work with some modifications. That shape steering wheel fits on all '92-'95 W124's.

The airbag that this wheel takes is a different shape than your W126 airbag. You could probably buy a used airbag at a recycling yard for about $200.

You'll also need to use the inner metal core from a '92-'95 W124 steering wheel that the airbag connects to. '92-93 W124 airbags connect differently than '94-95 airbags. Recycling centers will not sell just the metal core, so you'll have to buy the whole steering wheel. Probably budget around another $200.

The steering wheel would probably fit, but I don't know if the horn connection would work. If not, you'll have to either go without the horn, or install another switch for the horn, like on the floor board of the car that you would activate with your left foot.

Oh, it goes without saying that you could install the wheel without the airbag.

Well, the picture I included is of a w126 and it has a newer steering wheel, but not sure of which model. Is the steering wheel in the picture of a stock part or is it a custom made one?

Suginami.. I have seen that site before, however... I am more interested in the steering wheel pictured above instead of the ones they offer.

Also, what sort of work would I expect for a cool project like this? I will be keeping an eye out on ebay for a steering wheel like that.

The steering wheels that Tkamiya mentioned are sold by www.************************ are the exact same wheels sold by that company in Germany - the same manufacturer

You can pay $599 from performance products, or about $400 from Germany.

Snibble, take some time and search that website. That exact wheel is shown if you click on other chassis, like W124, W140, W210, etc....

Snib, check the eris-com site again. Unless my eyes deceive me, the second and third wheels from the bottom on the 126 steering wheels page are the pattern you want.

Hey guys.. thanks for the links again. However, there is a difference between the steering wheel up at the top and the ones on that site under the 126 section. They do have the steering wheel under the w124 for like $400 as someone here mentioned.

This seems to be more of hassle than I originally thought it would be. I would have to find a way to hook up the new steering wheel to the column and also have the airbag replaced... and doing so I risk losing the horn feature.

The picture I cropped up at the top is from a Japanese w126 website that only had pictures of cars. I will try to go back to see if the owner put his email address and also more importantly if he knows English. Then perhaps he can explain what he did.
