W126 suspension questions
Front:
What is the purpose of the complex guide rod mounting on a W126? What force or vibration is isolated from the rest of the car by those huge bushings? On a W123, the guide rod ball joint attaches to a bracket welded to the frame. Seems to do as good a job. Rear: Are there bushings between the differential and the subframe? I don't think so but it's not very clear in the CD manual. Looks to me that the rear subframe attachment to the frame is through the differential. Can someone confirm? Thanks, Sixto 91 300SE 87 300SDL 83 300SD |

Sixto,
As I understand the guide rod mounts are also known as caster mounts or bushings. I'd reckon for setting and maintaining proper caster. I haven't a clue on the diff mounts.
