whom have replace the waterpumps before? is it difficult?
Also the differential is leaking oil, is it common on benz?

Mine on the C180 went off last year and it was spraying the coolant all over the hood and other parts. Had to clean up a lot and sent it to the tech shop. This tech shop fixed it, but as usual "found" a multitude of stuff I never complained of. This was wearing off and that was not working and all that. Finally I took it to another trustworthy tech and he set everything right without the long long list of "have" to be dones. Good luck, maybe you should do it yourself if you are capable of it. The m104 is a bit tricky but, doable by a DIYer given they have some mechanical knowledge. The worst of it is the mounting bolts and getting it out of the hole.


Diff seals will leak on occasion, also not too hard of a job except for the axwardness and weight of the diff.

The water pump is not that difficult to replace on the C280. You may need to remove the radiator shrowd from the inside to get room to remove the pulley of the water pump. Additionally, make sure you loosen the belt tensioner bolt in the middle of the tensioner before releasing the tension from the tensioner bolt. This tensioner bolt runs vertical and it sticks out behind the Power Steering Pump. You have to release these two items before you remove the belt from the Power Steering Pump.

I just want to know how to take off the fan clutch? because it is lack of space, I guess I don't have to take off the radiator right?

Hi,

You don't need to remove the fan clutch. In order to have more room, you remove the fan shrowd inside. There are couple of clips on top near the radiator that you need to remove. Once these clips are removed, the shrowd will come out. The shrowd is in two pieces. The inner piece turns then it will come out. The piece that is attached to the radiator will then come out.

You should have sufficient space to remove the water pump pulley and other essentials. As I mentioned before, be sure to belt tensioner bolt (it has a square insert, special socket) then loosen the belt with the vertical stem bolt. Then, you pull up on the belt and it will pull the belt adjuster to loosen the belt in order to remove it from the applicable pulleys.

Hi,

Yes, you can buy it almost anywhere. It's a 10mm square tip socket. This socket fits inside this bolt. I bought mine at Sears.
