My 83 500se has a slight misfire when i pull away from standstill.
It clears at about 850 RPM,also it causes the car to shake slightly when idling. The misfire is NOT present when the engine is cold only at normal operating temp. I have replaced dist. cap Rotor and Leads but have noticed the contacts inside the dist. cap have blackened very quickly. Also the oil pressure fluctuates whilst idling. Any help would be much appreciated. P.S.Replacing engining mounts has helped shaking slightly. |

It could be an injector or fuel distributor problem. Usually the marginal injectors show problems at low delivery levels. Have someone with an ignition analyzer(scope)look at it. A cylinder running lean from a lack of fuel will show a higher voltage spike. Once you isolate which cylinder(s) are the problem its easier to diagnose. It could even be an intake leak...

I agree with Randy. It's most likely a fuel problem. I had the same symptoms with my '85 380SE a couple years back. Replaced injectors, fuel head, lambda tower, and enrichment compensator. Cured the problem. Also, make sure mixture is set properly. If you've got a lambda tester then you're set. If not, leave this one to the shop. ------------------ Rgds, Aaron Greenberg MB technician Precision Motorcars, Cincinnati, Ohio '67 250SE Cabriolet '77 450SL '79 6.9 (SOLD) '80 300SD '85 380SE '89 420SEL '93 300E 2.8 |
