what tool to use to pull rear wheel bearings on w201?
 

I was wondering if anyone ever pulled the rear wheel bearings on a w201, and if so, how was it done, with what tools?

I know those bearings sit realy tight and you need a puller of some sort to get them out. I think I can make one out of a big screw and two washers of the right size, I have some heavy duty ones, but maybe I can rent a tool that will make this much easier.

Buy new rear hubs with the bearings already installed....unless you have LOTS of time and some expensive pullers..Good Luck!

I saw a bearing on a 190 being pulled out, boy, what a show, the guy doing it almost had a heart attack, maybe I can rent a puller from somwhere, he was using a slide hammer puller.... looked more painful on the car then him

Rear Bearings
 

I just replaced both my rear bearings on my 1989 300TE.
I just removed the rear hub, took it to a shop, where they pressed out the hub, removed the snap ring and then pressed out the bearing. It took like 20 minutes for each hub and I paid $40/-.
I would not buy a new hub unless the 201 chassis is dramatically different than 124 chassis. I also replaced the joint/bushing in the hub.

Now that is a good idea, I can take the hub out no problem and then take it to a shop to get it pressed out, just gotta find a shop that will do it.

Rear Bearings
 

While you are doing the rear bearings, check the joints and all other rubber bushings such as differential bushings.
I replaced all of these.

I plan on doing the same thing and I think I'll start with the rear since right now it's the most problematic.

thanx for the tip, I think I can get my bearings pressed at my dads work for free :)
