A/C Blues
86 300SDL Air was great yesterday - but nothing today. It appears the a/c clutch is not engaging. Read through some threads and did check the strip fuse, ignition idea - but little specific info to car. Whether it be coincidence or murphys law the alternator is not charging today either - could these be related?Ideas?

Actually the alternator could be the problem.
The Klima relay (compressor control) will shut down the compressor for a number of reasons. many not specifically spelled out. It has been suggested in discussion that the relay will also protect the battery by shutting down the compressor. Since the alt is required, fix it and see.

It appears today was just the day for "things" to break. I did get the cold air going. The water temp sending unit has two connections a dual prong and a single prong. The single prong is the high temp default for the A/C Clutch. Once removed "cold air" again. Guess I will see how hard it is to put brushes in the alternator. thnx JK
