I would assume that a New OE quality water pump would have a 12 month unlimited mileage warranty. The GK water pump my mechanic installed on 3-4-99 was replaced yesterday. I assumed it was under warranty, but was charged for the part and labor. I was told that the warranty was 12 months or 12000 miles and since I drove 30,000 plus miles, it was out of warranty. I contacted a supplier and they said 12 months unlimited mileage for the same water pump. Does anyone know for sure before I really get angry. What is the norm?

The norm is following what Mercedes does with their parts warranty. Most parts have 1 year warranty. In most cases its left upto the installing repair shop on aftermarket parts.

GK stands for junk. I have seen people try to get away with using them in the past and they outright fail. When I see one leaking on a car (the GK) I have to charge the customer for a core. Mercedes OE REMAN water pumps are soooo cheap now, I don't know why anyone would use anything else. GK is not OE quality.

AS benzmac says most aftermarket water pumps are not upto OE quality. In the past MB sold only new pumps at a real $$$$$ expense. But w/rebuilt parts they don't cost any more than aftermarket. The only aftermarket pump that uses OE bearings & shaft seals are "Graf". No matter who builds the pump they all die sometime. Have replaced hundreds of pumps under warranty!! Some after 1 year & others after 5.
