On a 1988 300sel, my cruise switch on the steering column flops around now,and activating the cruise is next to impossible. Is it possible to remove/repair/replace the switch? I guess I'm afraid of the air bag. I read somewhere that a small bearing in the base of the handle becomes displaced and can be re-set somehow. Any suggestions? I also read of James Stephens heating problem in his 300sel. Like him, I get no heat unless I shut down the engine after it warms up, then restart. But any heat if any at all is very minimal. Could you further describe this "mono-valve",and it's location? Thanks-BTW the brakes are still working!! Thanks again. Nick

The mono-heat valve is located between the two walls in front of the windscreen under the hood. It has a silver top with 4 slotted screws on top. The insert is under $40. and you can do it yourself.
The cruise switch can be done by the consumer, but you need some special tools. I'd take it to a tech and allow them to take the liability of removing the air bag and replacing the switch. ------------------ Benzmac: 1981 280GE SWB 1987 16V ASE CERTIFIED MASTER AUTO TECHNICIAN SERVICE MANAGER FOR 14 BAY FACILITY MERCEDES SPECIALIST 8 YRS PARTNER IN MERCEDESSHOP.COM |
