be sure to check the fuse amperage

I bought a '90 350SDL while down in Florida last xmas (ok, ok. Don't start with the "you shouldn't have bought that car cuz the engine is gonna throw a rod, etc."

Anyways, today I was changing out one of the courtesy lampholders on the door and accidentally shorted the wires together. As expected, I blew a fuse. When I went to change out the fuse I decided to look at the other fuses. According to the fuse legend/layout sticker on the fusebox cover, I was able to determine what color and amperage fuse I should have at what location. Come to find out that I had about 5 fuses that were not the correct amperage. 4 out of the 5 had 16amp fuses when they were supposed to be 8amp fuses.

As I was changing them back to the correct amperage, I kinda thought that as soon as I started it up I would have fuses blowing left and right. I thought maybe the P.O. had put them in there because the 8amp fuses were just "too low amperage rating" for him. And that maybe he did that to circumvent some electrical problems.

Just FYI: it might not be a bad idea to check your fuses. If someone put in a 30A or 25A in a position that a 8A is supposed to be, you could be looking at a potential fire hazard.

Just my $0.02

That's good advice. I didn't realize my car was the same way until I decided to change all my fuses and I was a little off in what I got because I counted existing fuses, not the chart.

BTW, you shouldn't have bought a 350SDL, you'll throw a rod Wasn't that a line from the Christmas movie with Darrin McGavin?
