70 or 80 Amp Alternator?

Could someone explain me the difference between a 70 and a 80 Amp Alternator. Everyone sells the 80Amp cheaper than 70Amp. I am in a market for one on my 1987 260E and can't figure out which one to buy.

Thanks.

The 1986 thru 1989 used the 70A alt. The 1990 & later uses the 80A. You can install the 80A on earlier cars with the later wiring harness MB part # 124-543-45-26 (list $66.) The 80A works much better esp/w hi-power stereo systems OR in hot climates where the A/C runs all of the time.
