oil pressure check valve.

Hello everyone:

following up on the favorite timing chain noise questions & answers, was wondering again about the oil pressure check valve. other than the rattle at startup, is there any other symptom of this valve going bad? wouldn't the oil pressure indicator fluctuate, or not top out at all if there was a problem with system pressure? seems that the timing chain was okay, minimal stretch for 80K, and that the tensioner was good too...
just trying to narrow down this problem to see if it really is a problem or just one of those mb character issues.

as always, any advice would be most appreciated. thanks again,
