Boy it pays to shop around!

I was looking for a caliper to fix a problem I was having, the old one seized and was causing a lot of noise while driving. So I called up a few junk yards and found one that had the caliper I was looking for still on a car, which down here was like "WoW On the car?!?!" since I never seen a w201 on a yard here yet until today. I drove down there and, they had 3 of em, one even had the same interior color as mine. I got the caliper for $25, but on top of that I got four brand new looking aluminum rims like the originals for $50 a pop with a good tire on them, I also got the temperature display that goes on the instrument cluster, a new OVP, some nuts and bolts, all the window switches and other switches from the center console, and I plan on going back for more. My total was $250 canadian :) and another place wanted $100 just for the caliper on it's own

I feel like a good shopper today hee hee :)

Now I'm waiting for someone else to get home so I can bleed the new caliper and take my baby for a test drive woohoo!

Wrecking yards w/MB in Toronto?

There is actually a wrecking yard in Toronto that has more than 1 MB in it? Can you pass on the contact info for the rest of us in the area?

The yard in Oakville only has a piece of metal that used to be a 190E and they've had it for years.. I guess it qualifies them as having "MB content"

yeah, love to hear the name and number to see if perhaps they have any 914s. a joker here in Michigan showed me a set of steel wheels in his showroom for $600! broke his heart to tell him I already found a set of 4 for $20.

I'd love to share the info, took me a while to track this guy down myself and the yard is filled with all sorts of imports. In short they had more MBs Jags and Bimmers there then I've seen anywhere else.

The place is called Mikes Auto Parts and it's in Stoney Creek on Highway #20. Coming from TO you have to take the QEW west and get off at exit 89 and go down a street called Centenial Parkway, it then turns into highway #20, the place will be on the left, big white fence, can't miss it.

The only problem is they allow only one person in the yard at a time, I couldn't even take my dad with me to help me out, and if they have the part on the shelf that's what you will have to take first. Overall they are extremely friendly compare to any other junk personnel I came across so far.

Good Luck!

btw that 190 still had it's ECU, I just didn't think I could snag it that easy which is why I only took small parts, $900 piece! Kicking myself for that now :)

When I lived in Vancouver, I dealt with a place in Surrey called Ace German. They had a yard full of nothing but Benzes. I got stuff like a power steering pump from them and a few other bits and pieces. They would let me take stuff off myself, or even help out. If a part didn't work when you got it home, they would give you another until you got one that worked (only happened once to me). I had them send me an instrument cluster and an exhaust manifold when I moved back to Toronto. Both items were reasonably priced and in very good shape when I got them. You can bargain somewhat with them too. Know the new price of whatever you want so you don't run the risk of getting taken. They don't know the new prices, they just throw a figure out that seems reasonable.
I don't own that 190e any more (traded up). Anyone in the Toronto area interested in a brand new sport cam for the 2.3 (from Bekkers)? Never installed it before selling the car.

I might look them up if my place runs dry, thanx a lot for the info!

I found a gold mine.....

There is a 'U wrench it' Here in Virgiinia Beach that you pull your own parts. Shocks are $3.50, floor mats 3.00 steel wheels 5 alloy 15 and up Tires 10 to 20. Most anything is less than $10. It makes for a great afternoon.
