Just replaced all my tie rods etc to cure play in the steering...
well...some of the play has gone, but I still have this problem:

At highway speeds (70-80mph) any slight bump in the road, or any sort of
crosswind etc sends my '91 300CE wandering off over to the side of the
road... Any clues here? I have play in the steering (about 2inches of the
wheel).

It still feels tight under corening load, but in a straight line its....
scary.

Thanks!!

It sounds as if you have two problems to me. You could have a faulty steerig coupler and or some links in the rear that need to be replaced. The rear links will make one really weird on the highway.

Brian,
Had the same trouble in my 89 TE, really felt unsettled in a straight line. The rear links were cheap (relatively) and completely solved the problem.

Nick

Getting out of the car, I heard the rear end go... 'CREEEEEEEEAK'. I'll get it checked today, thanks people.

I think I'm just paranoid about the steering, Its probably not too bad !
