It might help if I explain what I want to do. Bob (my neighbour and good friend) has diagnostic equipment for OBD2 and offered to loan it to me . Yesterday I borrowed both Bob and his equipment for an hour but everything halted when he looked at the connector and said- 'its different'. Bob has two european cars both of which have the ISO version of OBD2, both have the same connector but its different to Mercedes or certainly different to my 98 300 turbodiesel. Any information or advice would be good, or a pointer to anything on the net.

I have the same car. It has two OBD2 connection points, different type connection. One under dash, one in the fuse box. Always wondered if one supplied more info than is available in the other.

Thanks RH, I've only found the one in the fuse box, this is a 38 pin with 13 actualy wired. Just looked under the dash can't see any flaps or popouts, each side of the dash (right by the doors) there are popout flaps but only found fuses, do I remove the large underside cover?

If my memory serves, the one under the dash is on the left side of the steering column, if you look carefully there is a small plastic cover which will just pull-off to reveal the connector. No need to remove anything else.
