On my 1986 300e, yesterday without any previous weirdness, the drivers door lock stopped working. Basically when you put the key in the slot and turn it, there is no reaction. If you do the same thing on the passengers side, all locks open, including the drivers side. Basically if I unlock the door for my wife and put her in the car, my side is already open. If I try to open my side first, that won't work. I need to go to the other side, unlock the car and then go back. I know that these locks are vacuume controlled. Is that were my problem lies, or is it some sort of linkage. Any one ever heard of anything like this before?

Many times the roll pin will fall out of the pin that links the lock tumbler to the internal lock. You have to take off the tumbler and buy a new one or repair the old one.

Thanks Guys,
Is this something easy to do, or should I simply take it to the dealer and let them mess with it? I'm all for doing it myself assuming it's not too much of a pain, but if it takes special tools or prolonged patience, I'm better off with someone who has more of a mechanical mind than I. ------------------ Kyle De Priest 1986 300e 1972 BMW R75/5 (Best there is) |
Thanks again Moraine,
I also enjoy working on my car myself. I've just had a hard time finding a manual until receintly. I have one on order. I must admit, Auto locks intimidate me and I like to know what I'm getting into before I open a can of worms. It's good to know that there are no special tools required for this job and that I always have mercedesshop to help in tricky spots! ------------------ Kyle De Priest 1986 300e 1972 BMW R75/5 (Best there is) |
