Miscellaneous Question for new MB owner

Hello:
I have semi technical questions regarding the W203 that I recently purchase:

o This new model doesn't have an oil dipstick for the engine. I have to rely 100% on the computer to tell me if oil is needed or there is too much oil. The regular place where dipstick is usually located is simply a plastic plug. Is there an OEM dipstick for this model so that I can physically check how much oil is in the engine?

o This car has a 6 speed manual transmission unfortunately MB manual never mention about the recommended speed for shifting gears. Does anybody have a good recommendation so I can get the best mileage?( and I want to prevent lagging)

Thanks,

Jim

Hey Jim, you paid good money for that car! Enjoy the convenience of modern technology and forget about the dipstick. You can check the oil level from the drivers' seat. With the mileage displayed in the instrument cluster just press the down arrow on the steering wheel ( I think it's two or three times ) until the display tells you it's checking the oil level. The engine must be at operating temperature with the key ON/ engine off. It only takes a few seconds. I know it takes some time to get used to, but the "digital dipstick" is here to stay.
