Removing worn painted pinstripe - ideas?

My brother just bought a BMW 3 series from 1993.

The car looks imacculate, except for a painted pinstripe that is obviously faded and worn.

Anyone have any ideas how to remove it without damaging the otherwise pristine finish on the car?

Thanks in advance,

George

A high speed buffer with a rubbing compound will remove it, but you're going to reduce the thickness of the paint surrounding it, too.

You have to be REALLY GOOD with the buffer and rubbing compound or you will damage the paint adjacent to the stripe. Since the stripe is painted on and is higher than the surrounding paint, the only proper way to remove it would be to sand it out and level the stripe area to the same level as the surrounding paint and repaint. Since this is expensive - my suggestion is -since the stripes are faded - why not buy new pinstripe tape and apply over the painted stripes? Not that hard and a lot cheaper and easier. Just my suggestion;) :D :D :D
