Yes, that' correct. . .
According to the directions that come with Auto-RX, you should use 2oz per quart of oil and 2oz for the filter.
So for my car, 18 oz is the 'norm'. I used 16 oz, close enough since only have 3 bottles (12 oz each). This way I have enough for a second treatment. Still no tick!! |

Actually the "2 oz. for the filter" advice was...
...probably due to the fact that few cars nowadays have 6 quart (as in "Ford V8") oil systems anymore. So, 10 & "two to grow on", maybe?
2 oz. per quart will do the trick, especially if a 2nd treatment is anticipated. My SVX (happens to be 6 quarts!) has over 100K now, but there was really so little 3rd party material in the filter after the initial treatment that I'm going to probably just use 4 oz. per the next three 3K oil & filter changes and see what I find in those filters. That represents years of use on that car. The F250's 460 will be a little more of a challenge, I'm sure. One of the nice things about this product is there is no time limit as to the effectiveness of the application. If it takes a couple months to accumulate the miles, it will be doing its cleaning while the motor is running as operational temperature is a vital part of the process. Of course when you are curious about what will be coming out in the oil pan & in the filter it is natural to wish to see those miles run by. Cheers!

I emailed Auto-Rx....and they said that after the two applications are complete, to continue to use it by putting 3oz of Auto-Rx into your oil in every subsequent oil change. I don't remember reading anything about this in their website. Anyone know anything about this? Is this valid, or merely a ploy to sell more of their $25/bottle product?

It is commonly called a "maintenance" dose...
The idea being that after a full, 2 treatment cleaning regimen this amount should actively prevent future crud from accumulating. Going to a 100% synthetic oil after the cleaning would probably have the same effect. Might cost more, too!
Of course they want you to use their product! There are other products (Neutra 131 comes to mind) available that can also be used as both a cleaner and as a preventive maintenance dose. It is considerably less expensive. I don't think it does the job as quickly as Auto-Rx can although some buy it by the gallon and use it in an almost "engine flush" mode at significantly higher concentrations. Lots of discussion on the Bob-is-the-oil-guy Board. It can be added to gas, also. It all depends upon whether the idea of cleaning up the internals of your engine and keeping it clean are attractive to you. Some motors are so gunked up that more 2 oz. per quart treatment applications are necessary. If I were to see really dirty, dark oil & lots of junk still coming out of the pan & filter folds after two applications I for one would not hesitate to keep going until things cleaned up. Most engines are usually not this far gone. Cheers!

I forgot!
The three bottle deal drops the price below $20 per... including shipping.
This ought to take care of most normal 2 treatment applications plus a 4 oz. maintenance dose on your 8 quart 420, mbtjc, as in one 12 oz. bottle + 4 oz. = 16 oz. times 2 treatments = 32 + 4 = 36! Cheers!

I doubt that my motor has that much crud in it, I just want to use the Rx treatment...well because I just want to and it can only help! I guess I don't see any use in me spending the money for subsequent doses since I do use full synthetic Mobil.

Chapter 2 of Auto-RX and the tick-tick!
Well, the tick-tick is back!!!
As I was pondering how to tell the 'world' that Auto-RX didn't do anything different than the other products, I discovered that the tick-tick was on the LEFT side of the engine, NOT the right (as it has been). To see what happened last year, check this link to my page: http://pages.prodigy.net/jforgione/MB_S500.html Select MENU #19 to see one those bad 'critters'! Upon closer examination, it definitely was on the LEFT side, so off came the valve cover. Guess what? One of the infamous oil tubes was open. That, of course, was the cause of the ticking lifter!!! So Auto-RX's fame is still intact and the inside of my engine is absolutely clean. Should have taken some pics but was at my tech's shop. The mileage is about 400, so will leave it in a few more hundred miles before changing. |
