Just wondering what this part is on my W124 1989 230E 8v.
It is located behind the brake booster.

It is a blower resister. Most 124 cars use electronic current controls. it's possible that you car might not. If not it would be the reduced speed resistor for the auxilary fan (in front of the radiator).

It is definately the blower resistor. Both my 4-cylinder 124s without aircon have it. Not many have the electronic climate control in UK, not even sure if it was available on 4-cyl models.

think of it as a rheostat for the blower motor.
