107 Euro Headlight quickie question - PeachParts Mercedes-Benz Forum

I have just taken delivery of a used set of euro headlamp units for my 350SL Roadster. This used set has vacuum adjustment on left and right units. They work. I hooked up the Mighty Vac and they travel giving an up and down adjustment. My question is do they just plug in (electrical) or do I have to get a different jumper or terminal? And where do I tee into to hook up the vacuum. I did not get the switch that works the adjustment for the vacuum headlights (inside car switch). So do I hook up vacuum anyway? Or can the switch be any vacuum switch from a bone yard? So far I love reading all the posts on this fab site however when I ask a question I notice I rarely hear back from anyone am I not posting correctly? Thank you in advance. Boy i feel really stupid asking all these mundane questions! Have a nice Easter! Ernie Oh and one more anyone know where I can get a cheap euro lense (Right)?

The vacuum adjusters can be left disconnected until you find the switch for your model.

As far as the electrical connection goes, you will probably have to take the cover off the connector and move the pins around. This will take some work to determine which pin on the harness does what, and then determine which pin on the headlight assembly is which. You will need a test light or multimeter.

You should be able to get the lens from Fastlane right here on this site.

I am a little slow are you asying move the pins on the Euro's? Or are you saying rearrange the pin configure on the USA plug ? Or are you saying that It will be a combination? I have looked over my Euros and cannot find what some call city light's did they come on just certain Euro's? I have seen Euro city lights on this site and on the street and thought how cool they look glowing but never really knew to much about them! Any help would be great. And thank you very much Larry Bible. I have read other posts that you "tee" into the economy gauge but sadly my 1972 350SL did not come equipped with one. I will scour e-bay for the switch that goes on the dash for vac adjustment I just cannot think of any other vac switch that I could get that would work.

I'm sorry that I was not more clear. The connector and wiring will stay the same on the headligh assemblies. The plug that connects to the headlight assemblies will probably require rearranging the location of the female connector pins. This is the connector that is part of the wiring harness on your car. You will pry the top off the connector and you will be able to rearrange the female pins in that connector to match the proper location on the headlight assembly.

This site is really handy it gives just me just enough courage to work on my car on my own. I have read on another post that "if your is not broken...you have not fixed it enough" somehow that is true. Thanks Larry Bible for your help.

On my U.S.A. headlights the pins consist of low beam, high beam, running lamp (under orange bezel) and ground pin. You have an additional four prong plug for turn signals... (one hole is empty) one hole is ground one hole is power for turn and the other hole for running lamps (within the turn signal) Oh and by the way my SL has the turn signals that were only offered one year on a 107 "1972" you know the tear drop shaped ones. Any hoo I am good with getting the pins to match up on my euros I bought on e-bay my question is where and how now do I plug my turn signals into the euros? I have no four prong receptacle for my turn signals, on my euros. Am I missing something? I can't find the post where someone said that all you have to do is get a molex connector or something from fastlane? Does any one feel my pain? I have these super cool euro's and want to hook them up in the worst way...help! Oh and while I am in the give up mode... what wattage bulb do you insert into the empty hole that is the "city light" ??? I think that this little bulb gives the coolest little"halo of light I went to napa and got a low wattage bulb but it fits kinda loose I will bend the prong a little to tighten it but something tells me maybe I have inserted the wrong bulb..help!
Thank you in advance this is the best forum I am having a lot of fun figuring out what makes these great cars tick, and I would be lost without this forumn. I have hooked up my battery charger to two amp trickle and have figured out what each pin and or hole does on both euro and U.S.A. lamps it is just now a question of how to hook up turn signals, i dont want to cut wires I want the correct connector number, the only thing I could think of would be to cut wires and hardwire it but with 23000 miles on my car I prefer to get the correct connector. I can take some pictures later I am sleepy now, thanks

I have read a million post on headlights...phew... and none seem to help other than I guess that the orange side marker with the 1156 inside was the turn signal in europe? Is that so? can I just buddy my teardrop turnsig lights in on that circuit? I think I am to tired to ponder this tonight all the guys that know how to wire these 350SL euro lights are more than likely tired of answering such stupid questions....good night fellas I will check tomorow thanks Ernie
