haynes manual is not making any sense
i'm still stuck with alining the camshafts on my 76 450, and the manual is not helpin:
- 1st they say the passenger side head has the #1,2,3,4 cylinders while the driver side has #5,6,7,8 is this true???? - second they say on the #1 cylinder if i line up the keyway in the sprocket with the little mark on the bearing the intake valve should point up, it isn't i don't know if my engine is different but i got numbers (1,2,3,..) written on the driver side cam above each cylinder, and yet they say that the #1 cylinder is located at the passenger side head help please |
The right front cylinder IS # 1, also 2 3 & 4 are on the right side.
Cylinder 5 is on the left front. |
right as in driver side , correct. as if i'm standing in front of the car looking into the windshield it would be on my right side...
well thanks a lot for your help , i guess the manual reversed them |
Right as veiwed from the driver seat. The #1 cylinder is the one closest to the timing chain tensioner. You'll note that the right bank is a little bit more forward than the left bank.

Right/left orientation in manuals is taken from Drivers position in the cabin..
|
actually the right bank (passenger side bank) is a little bit back and he driver side bank is a little forward, that's why i'm confused
|
well i don't know if it is pushed back but there is a spacer between the cam and the sprocket, there is no spacer on the driver side
