Need help replacing A/C manifold seals on 126
 

It's A/C season again in New England and just noticed that gas was coming out of the top of the compressor. It's a 1988 300 SEL that has been converted to 134 some years ago.
I would like to arm myself with all the O rings and seals that I need before starting the job. I believe that it's a nippondenso unit, could use some hints from some of you experts that have gone through this process.
Also the best way to recharge sytem, I picked up a set of manifold gages and can go somewhere to evacuated system if needed.

Can this be done with compressor in car or not?

I have not had apart a Nippondenso on this particular car, but I believe it is like another one that I converted and resealed. If so, there is a special seal that goes between the top plate and the compressor. If I am correct you will need this special seal. I got mine in an o-ring kit that I bought from acsource which can be located at www.aircondition.com.

As long as you can access the bolts and there is enough room to remove the cover, you should be able to do this with compressor in car.

Use nylog sealant on this seal after cleaning everything thoroughly with a clean lint free cloth, then thoroughly evacuate the system before charging.

The kit that I think you need is APK01. The seal that I THINK you need is in this kit and is octagonal shaped with part that seals off a corner. If you go look at the picture you can see what it looks like then check yours to see if that is the seal.

Ace indicated that the leak was at the manifold, not the shaft seal. It is always nice to have such information though.

Thanks again guys, I might also get the shaft seal kit as well because the leak appeared to be coming out from the top front.
Jbaj directions for the reseal appear to be straight forward.

I have a spare compressor which I think is good, do you guys know which one of the three pins on top need 12volts to activate clutch for bench testing?
