Overheating

I have a 1986 190E that overheats while I'm sitting in traffic on cold mornings. I have new antifreeze however the guage pegs up to HOT.

Ideas ?

Are you sure it is hot? Is the gauge working properly?

If it is hot then check to see that the engine fan is working properly. Check to see that the electro-mechanical fan comes on.

Do a search, there are a lot of postings regarding this engine fan.
