Engine #

Hi Guys,

I am in the middle of changing the water pump on my 1993 300E. As I go about trying to order a new on, one on-line store just asked for my chassis...124....and my engine...3.2. They listed one choice for $129.00. Every other place, NAPA included, has two choices depending on engine production #. Oh ya, they all cost 60-70 dollars more. Where do I find the engine production #? Any ideas as to the differences?

To properly specify the part one starts with the chassis number. The system spits out all the basic numbers and the part footnotes are compared to those numbers.

The chassis number is on the windshield post and other places. Anyone that sells MB parts should be able to do the conversion.

Sometimes a new part will work for several configurations, but other sources may still carry the original specification part. The replacement wp for our 190E was a different number from the original, but came with plugs for unused ports, thread size adapters, etc. It still bore an MB part#, and was listed as a valid replacement by the dealer info.
