Good Shops in Connecticut
I am having fuel problems with my 1987 300E and am looking for a good shop to diagnose the problem and do the repair. I live near Bristol, Connecticut. Does anyone know of any good Mercedes repair shops in Connecticut, perferably within about a one hour drive of Bristol?
Thanks, Walt |

Glastonbury Foreign Auto in Glastonbury is very good, specializing in European autos (parking lot is full of Audi, Porsche, MB all day).
Also Classic Motor Car in Branford is a great MB specialist, Dad and two sons all MB techs. Very reasonably priced but might be a bit far for you.

Hope this helps-Mikes Citco, Clinton Ct., plan on dropping off the car and shopping Clinton Crossings Outlet.
He is fair, very well priced-HONEST, and knows what he's talking about. Very good staff. I couldn't recommend any shop so highly! He even shops for the best price on parts from various sources! Can't say enough about the place-I can stop in and ask questions, get an answer-try THAT with other places w/out making an appt. , or getting a sigh. !!!!!!! -Mel |

In Durham on Rt. 17 near the Middletown line is a local independent dealer with a good reputation - Ken(?) Marino. he has been in business for years selling MBs and is good from what I hear. Also in New London is my favorite shop, Carriage House MB. There is always the human factor invovled when dealing with anybody but Carriage House really tries to do the job right.

Are they connected to the Carriage House in Branford?

I don't think so. I've never heard Carriage House in New London mention anything about a second site. Mauro motors in North Haven also sells and services MB but can't say I recommend them.

Carraige House is the only one in CT...the owner of that one has others in LI and NY. They are the best and fairest ($79/hr) MB dealer in CT and if you are a MBUSA club memebr you get a discount on parts. Art Foster is there and one of the best MB techs in New England.
Ken Marino is not so good and makes too much money on OEM parts that they get from Carriage House. Their folks are New Country MB rejects. Of course, they are many other good shops in CT...but Carriage House is one of the best. |

Thanks Jim.. I forgot to mention that being a MBCA member saves an awful lot of money there too (20% on parts). Art Foster is usually who works on my cars. He is great. They are very pro-active about safety items that need to be replaced too. Let's me plan for the short term. Didn't know about Marino's dark side though. Any high end car dealer who sells 2 or more types of cars - like New Country, Mauro - can't focus on what makes customers (like me) happy in my opinion.

Good news is that Carriage House is going to build a bigger dealership in Waterford and possibly double the 6 techs they have now. Ed (the parts manager) is my neighbor and is straight up...tell him you know me and he may even give you another 5-10% off parts.
To anyone listening...Carriage House will pick up and deliver your car and parts for free and free shipping on parts if you want them mailed ...jeez, I sound like a salesman from there. |

Marino's parts come from Worldpac. He and Tom are both very thorough, fair, and honest. That said, he is running a business. He gets a lot of customers that have not faired well at the larger dealers in Hartford and New Haven, and a fair number of his customers have been buying from him and servicing with him for years. He has treated me quite well.

Marino, well...New Country rejects doesn't necessarily mean bad, btw. : ) been to Marinos once with a 2.6 190E...only once, never more! Actually you'd do better if you bring the car over to Tom's house instead of bringing it to Marino and buying the parts yourself (if you don't want MB dealer service; I'll agree its not for everyone all the time).

Walt,
I have 2 excellent choices for you that are very close. The first is ******** Schmid in Torrington 496-8442. Willi Scmid is M-B trained in Germany, works odd hours (12:00 - 10:00 pm or so) and has a loyal following. He WILL fix your car. Willy has been keeping our '87 300E in fine fettle for several years. The second is The European Car in Canton, sorry, don't have their number handy. Nice shop, more expensive than Willi. Art |

Carriage house of New London is hands down the best MB
shop in CT . ED and Grant are very helpful in the parts department The techs in back don't like to give up to many secrets back there, but they are fast and real good. Hey JIm500e a extra 5-10% for saying your name for parts maybe. Love to get a 30% discount lol. I would say New Country Motors is the worst MB shop in CT Dave |
