windshield wiper problem

Hello all, this weekend I was at a gas station filling up when I decided to wash my windshield and in the process lifted my one-wiper up away from the car to clean under it. Come to think of it, I had never done this before, and figured it was like all other cars in which you simply push it back down when done. However, it would not go back down, even with sufficient pressure. I am asking whether there is some type of release to put it back down or something of that sort, as I do not have an owners manual, but plan to purchase one soon. ANY help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

btw car is a 1986 300e.

No catch, at least on my monowiper. Just snaps back down if you push on it. Maybe your hinge is sticking. Might spray a bit of silicone on the hinge and wiggle the joint a little.

Also put some sort of a cloth or cover over the glass as silicone is hard to get off glass and makes the wiper do weird things.
