left inside fender well of a 1988 560SL. After performing a visual inspection of the vehicle during an oil change, I noticed that the vacuum lines routed to this canister had failed. Before I discovered this, the car would run strong but would hesitate at full throttle. Since the repair the engine runs very strong at all throttle positions. Thanks in advance.

I'm not familiar with the SL chassis, but from your description, it sounds like the evaporative emission cannister.
