126 p/s help

My power steering pump began to leak so I took it out, planing on just swapping out some o-rings and washers. However after I reassebled it and put it back on the engine, instead of leaking it did nothing, I then took it apart made sure everything was in correctly and tried it again and still no luck, I have taken it out 3 times and I still cannont determine what is wrong has anyone else had this problem? It was working just leaking before I took it out, now it does neither

Pump

I will make the assumption that the I/O hoses have been replaced correctly. With my pump overhaul it took probably about 4 times of adding fluid - starting car -- rocking the wheel, to get the unit to take the required amount of fluid. Can't remember the term for this (but like priming the pump). There is a thread on the forum that I used and was helpfull.

The output hose goes straight out the back of the pump and has a threaded fitting. The return hose goes into the side of the reservoir and has a simple hose clamp into a short pipe that's threaded into the reservoir. I don't know how you could have reversed the hoses.

To bleed the system, make sure there's fluid in the reservoir, get the front wheels off the ground, start the engine and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock a dozen times. Check fluid level and check for bubbles in the reservoir. Repeat until the fluid level doesn't change and there are no more bubbles.

A 300SDL does NOT take ATF in PS system. Use MB approved power steering fluid like Febi.
