Won's Start
1975 450 SEL. It will turn over, but it won't crank. It has new plugs and points and a new condensor. It has been sitting up for about 3 years before I bought it, and when I can start it, it sort of runs. However. this morning "Barbie" would not start. Comments?

Are you saying the starter spins freely, i.e. is not turning the engine over ? If so, you may want to replace the starter.

Won't start still
The electrical system turns the engine over fine, it just won't start. When it's running, it runs rough. My machanic can't figure it out for love nor money. And so far he has a lot of my money.

What you mean is that the Car cranks but won't turn over.
Anyway, Sounds like you may want to consider another mechanic. When you purchased the car did it run? Standing for 3 years can cause quite a bit of damage when trying to breathe life into the beast. Was the fuel and oil system flushed, replenished and new filters installed? The entire fuel system can be crapped up with varnish, water or rust. Was the crank checked (turned) to insure pistons werent siezed in the cylinders before starting? Many questions to have answered to make a diagnosis.

generally the car was started about once every month or so. The man that owned it collects cars, so he just didnt have the time for "Barbie" he did for some of the other more "collector" cars. When I picked it up, it started okay, and ran just a little rough. It has all gotten worse over the last couple of months. No there were no filters replaced or fluid's flushed. But that sounds like a good idea. THanks
