What Is This (trans)
my 97 e320 has developed a major leak on the transmission.
if i lie under the car(drivers side)...at the transmission bracket...a little cable goes into the trans. pan from the engine side. this cable has a plastic piece and a hex bolt next to it...it also has a black button that releases a little spring... the oil is comming out here.. i assumed it was the kickdown cable but it does not move when you push the accelerator. the winter/summer switch does not move it either... WHAT IS IT PLEASE GUYS.... |

That is the seal for the BRAKE interlock cable. Takes about 2 hrs to replace the "bellows" that seals the cable.
You must remove the cable from the pedal first, remove the trans pan & then replace the seal (bellows). While there you should service the transmission.
