Thanks guys, I appreciate the help! I think I will get the speedbleeders. I guess while I do this, I should periodically check the resevoir to make sure it isn't getting empty, right?
Also, since I seriously doubt the brake lines have ever been replaced, I plan on replacing those while I'm at it. Where in this process do I change out the lines? One more thing....just regular ol' DOT 4? or is it 3? Or do I need "special MB brake fluid"???

I hope you mean brake hoses (the rubber hose). This misnomer tripped a discussion a few weeks back.
Replacing brake hoses should be the first order of business. Ideally, you should replace the brake hose, then bleed/flush the fluid from that line for one wheel before moving on to the next wheel. I'm not exactly sure about your vintage of vehicle, but DOT 4 is specified by Mercedes. I believe the dealer sells a DOT 4+. Definitely make sure the master cylinder never runs dry during bleeding. If it does, you may have to bleed the master cylinder before continuing your brake job.

mbtjc,
I haven't changed my hoses but I don't think it would be too messy. It is just gravity flow of fluid coming out. After any brake work it would be good to monitor your fluid level to make sure it is buttoned up tight. Brake fluid level is not like engine oil level. If brake fluid level drops, something is wrong and you must find and eliminate the leak pronto. The worst you should see is the fluid gradually turning brown in color and then you get to use your new speedbleeders again! glenmore |
