Trip To Germany next week some questions

Hello everyone, if you haven't seen my other post, have a look.

Trip To Germany AMG

I am a little nervous about the film going through the xray machines or having the people at the airport check it. Anyone with some first hand experience. Anything about film or germany or my trip would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Agreed...with heightened security, the x-ray machines have been "turned up" so to speak. Film deemed safe to pass though in pre-911 will certainly be damaged nowadays.

Might want to consider digital photography...

In all my years of flying, I've never had to pass film through the X-ray. If I had loose film, I'd just put it in the key basket (which didn't go through) and they might pop it open to take a look inside the film canister. With a camera, they'd just look at it pretty close and make you snap a wasted picture. That is just my experience after having flown my entire life.

But I agree with G-Benz.....get a digital

See I bought an 800 dollar camera at christmas time and I would like to take about 30 rolls of film. The airports recommend not taking lead bags because they will dump the contents and run it throught the machine at really high levels. Im not sure what to do.

Check it. Put the film in the lead bag, and then put it in your suitcase (in case they x ray that too). I doubt you'll need to take any pictures on the plane

Talking Looking for recycled part s in Germany

Would really appreciate it if you could source for me during your trip there, anyone or Benz wreckers who can supply me a replacement for my driver's door interior trim panel for a right hand drive 1994 Euro C180 Elegance. It has a big dent in the backing board behind the cloth trim due to accidental pressure from the elbow area between the zebrano wood slab and the arm rest. The cream beige/mushroom coloured criss cross pattern cloth is intact, but may need complete replacement as it is glued on to the backing board which has collapsed in an area of about 6 inches square. Will try in the meantime to get the whole door trim off and see if somebody here has the skills to fix this annoying "hole/dent". Thanks.

Sounds like a lot of pre-2003 advice. US Airlines are federally required to scan all checked luggage and the scanners they use (CTX?) will fog film. They also don't want you to put key or padlocks on the checked luggage since they will break the locks if your bag needs a visual inspection, so plastic cable ties are recommended. Bottom line, don't put exposed or unexposed film in checked luggage anymore.

Yeah, because I have been reading www.tsatraveltips.us, and they say do not put film in a lead bag, they said they will have to pull it out, then hand inspect it and send the lead bag through really high intensity xray. They said 400 speed film is fine for 4-5 checkpoints, and then 800 speed will be fogged immediately. They said to bring it in a mesh or clear bag, and say please hand check this, I have high speed film, and anything over 800 needs to be hand checked.

I bought 8 rolls of 800 speed, and I am going to get some 1600 and some 3200 speed to mix in with my 400 speed film so they cant argue with me. I plan to take pictures and have a set developed when I arrive so I know if my film is good or not, if its not good, Ill just buy film there and process it there.

Thanks for the advice.

are you for real?telling a guy who's goin' on VACATION your car troubles and then asking him to find you some parts!omega you got some good advice,i would choose to buy AND develop overseas.like someone said , it may be more expensive but it could be cheap insurance to guarantee your pictures.have a great trip and if you can rent a car,go take it on the autobahn and let her have it!let me know how it feels

There's a thought! Lots of Agfa and Fuji over there. Is Ilford B&W still made? I've been meaning to check their Ilfochrome, formerly Cibachrome, for some reversal prints. Great stuff.

Have the film hand checked.
The TSA will always hand check any item that you specify to be hand checked.
