Thunking when shifting to Drive in 99CLK320

All the MB Guru's out there. Recently, i've noticed that in addition to the metal grinding noise when i'm shifting from Park to Drive or Reverse and turning left or right, ...
i'm also now feeling this delayed clunk when shifting to DRIVE.
(shifts to reverse without thunking)

I've read various posts about a b2 piston, and about flex discs, etc... but most of these problems pertain to older benz cars. Are these things still problems on something like a 99 clk 320 with 54k miles?

Any ideas? Thanks everyone. I think the car has been hit before (recently purchased it used) and i don't know what to expect at all.
