Sevice Manual CD recalled??

I just talked to MBUSA and they confirmed that ALL Mercedes Service manuals have been recalled. They keep freezing up.
Can you guys confirm the "freezing up"
They say the new cd's should be available in about 2 weeks.Or so!!!
What CD's do you guys have. And do you have any problems with them?
I need the AC service manual section to rebuild the AC system and I'm hesitant to buy any CD's right now.
I can buy paper manuals form Auto Literature, 1 888 789-6882.
He sells reprints of the original manuals. $70 for the AC manual. $80 for the electrical. $70 for the General maint man.
$220 to complete my service manual books or wait for the new CD at $130 from Mercedes.

What problems have those with Cd's seen???

Dave

I've got both the 107 and the 126 CDs and neither have ever "frozen" on me. They're not the easiest things to traverse when looking for something specific.

If I were them, I'd be adding copy protections since there are a bunch of ripoff artists on eBay selling CD-R copies. Then add something to it to make it more attractive than the old version. And then price it a little more reasonably.

But that's just me...

These CDs seem to have been generated with what is now an old version of Adobe PDF, and the way it plugs into what is now an old version of Internet Explorer.

If you upgrade to the latest Adobe Acrobat Reader, the CDROM no longer works properly. You can still look at individual PDF files, but their menu system using HTML has problems in the browser.

Perhaps they are about to reissue them using the latest software.

Ken,

I use the 124 CD on a computer that runs: Windows XP, Adobe 5.0 with the latest updates and Internet Explorer 6.0, that is also updated. It works quite well.

I am wondering, what OS are you using?

Right. My results.
Freezes with win2k + Latest Acrobat +IE6
Works with Win98 + Latest Acrobat +IE5.5

But, also freezes on the Win 98 system if another (newer format) .PDF file has been opened since last boot, unless I first kill the Acrobat process (AcroRd32.exe).

Maybe they will provide an index while they are at it...

Actually, they should just post the whole damn thing on their website, and let folks build their own indexes to share amongst the enthusiast community. This is a stupid way to try to make money. At least put the older stuff in the public domain. Goodwill begets goodwill begets enthusiasts begets customers begets profits.

Want to bet which strategy would net more money?
Do they really want to be in the software business?

Computers defy logic sometimes. I have been using System Mechanic to clean the registries on the computers and it works well and safely. You may want to try it, they have a 30-day trial download at: System Mechanic
