trans question

I have this neck breaking bang shifting from 1-2 and 3-4. 2-3 is smooth. I just had the transmission rebuilt by Ammco. No slipping, and shift pattern is fine, up and down. Could this be a vacuum problem??

Oh yeah, 1995 c220

Thats Funny cuz...

Back in early december i had the trans on my 1992 300se (w140) rebuilt by AAMCO cuz reverse died and my regular driving (forward moving) gears are still shifting rough. Just like you 1-2 and 4-5 is rough but 2-3 and 3-4 is smoothe. They told me that they had not adjusted some pressure regulator on the trans. They put it up right then and there, showed me a beige plastic lever, about a centimeter big, and turned it about a 1/4 turn (dont remember which way) and voila! it worke. Smoothe as silk. If it is not taken care of, it is not a big deal, doesnt affect the life of the trans, just a comfort thing. Has to do with fluid movement. Just so u know, change the trans fluid ever 20-30k. Its worth it. Don't do it urself, its not worth the aggravation of dealing with crappy mercedes gaskets, spend the $150 and enjoy ur benz for ever.

Peace

Mike

Just curious -- how much did AAMCO charge to rebuild your transmission?

For others reading this, I have heard you can get an MB factory rebuilt transmission with a good warranty for $1800 or so (depending on the model).

Thanks Mike.

I payed $1900 but I run it through my buddys dealership and had it done at discount cost. I beleive it would of been around $3000.

Hey 92Black300SE, I'm glad your transmission story had a happy ending. But in case you haven't figured it out yet, this Forum is all about DIY(DO IT YOURSELF). The members ACTUALLY ENJOY doing scheduled maintenance on their cars. As far as "crappy mercedes gaskets", I've been using them for fifteen years with no problems(other than human error). Have a nice day
