unable to get fan belts past fan blades 450sl - PeachParts Mercedes-Benz Forum

There is minimum clearance (none) between fan belt and fan blades on ,my 450sl (1977) when trying to replace belts. Any advice? do puley nuts on fan have to be loosened or removed? any advice appreciated

I don't recal taking off my fan when I change the belts, 1972 450SL. Maybe it's different on later 450s? A shop manual would be the first place to look. Do you have one?

Just replaced all of my belts on my 89 420sel and had to remove the 4-bolts and fan.Took about 20 min.

If you turn the fan around, you MAY see a THUMBNAIL in the fan hub where you can SNEAK the belt over to the crank pulley . . . If NOT, you can make one with a DIE GRINDER . . .
