Well, I was all ready to ut a US Spec engine in my car out of fear that the timing chain had broken, and I find out that it is in one peice, is a double row chain, and that there are little peices of broken plastic (very old looking, and brittle) strewn throughout the area beneath the valve cover. I cannot seem to finish the jigsaw puzzle, so I can only assume the worst (though much better than a new timing chain and valves, etc.), that I will have to take the engine apart to fish out the remaining peices of plastic. I am assuming that these peices are part of a broken slide rail. Is there anything else that they might be? Also, does anyone have an estimate as to how much new slide rail installation should cost?

The bad news is, if you find broken pieces of chain rails, you most likely have jumped time. It will be cheaper than the single row conversion and a valve job, but you are still looking at a heap of money.
